Verizon Pantech Breakout Review

The Pantech Breakout is a budget 4G LTE Android powered smartphone on the Verizon network., Running Android 2.3 under Pantech's own custom UX. It sports a 4" capacitive touch screen display, 1Ghz processor, VGA front facing camera for Video chat, 5MP rear camera with 720p HD recording, VGA front facing camera and 8 GB of internal storage.

The Pantech breakout design wise is reminiscent of the Droid Charge on the Verizon network, with rounded edges and a plastic build. The Front of the devices sport physical buttons for menu, home, back and search. There are also physical buttons for power, camera, volume toggles and voice activation switch.

The Pantech Breakout is an interesting device, disregarding the plastic build, Pantech has done a good job here of creating an Android smartphone that is worthy of purchase. Taking a look at its custom UX, Pantech has done a good job here, by borrowing Android UX ideas from fellow Korean companies Samsung and LG. By providing enhancement to the UX that allow for better user experience. from the addition of a Social hub to aggregate all you social media sites to the lock screen that gives you quick access to specific apps like, email, phone calls, messaging.

They also added full power controls in the notification bar that gives you quick access to you settings and functions. The Pantech Breakout also records at 720p with its 5MP camera and we have added a 30sec clip in the full review with picture stills below. The record quality is decent and works well for YouTube and Facebook uploads. But its nothing earth shattering.


Conclusion

The Pantech Breakout comes in at an affordable price point of $99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate, and is currently available today for purchase. The devices does have one or two notice set back. First of been data transfer, though this maybe a problem with my unit . My computer found it hard recognize the Pantech Breakout for data transfer, and I could only retrieve my photos by removing the microSD card.

Other than the data transfer hiccups, the Pantech Breakout is solid all around device and a good entry point for a 4G LTE devices on the Verizon Netowrk

The system memory is so small that you can not add any apps unless they will install to SD card. The 8GB SD card has lots of room, but not all developers are writing apps that will install on it. Also Verizon, Pantech and Android have so many useless apps that can not be uninstalled are taking up that small system memory. I will not root the phone because it belongs to my employer and I don't want to be responsible if it damages it. Shame on Verizon, Pantech and Google for releasing this phone.
