  • AWESOME! I love the weathering, and the guards marking on the fin looks wikkid too!

  • Thnks!

  • Very interesting. Beautiful model.

I didn´t know that the Russians had British Spitfires.

  • Thanks.

There were few planes the Russians didn't have (they even used some FW 190D's from a factory they overrun ) ;)

  • good photos and very detailed painting, exelent skill.

  • Thanks, i owe a lot to the tamiya weathering kit I bought ;)

  • @truekiwijoker " all of the above (i made this vid)

  • The Soviets were less than thrilled with the Spitfire. Beyond the fact it was too delicate for the operation profile of VVS frontal aviation, it's low altitude performance wasn't too remarkable anyway. Plus Churchill made sure they were only second-hand older marks the RAF didn't want anymore because they were outclassed by the latest German developments.

They were however much more appreciated by the PVO air defence forces.

  • Эти Спитфайры использовались ограниченно. Их отправили в войска ПВО, как и Тандерболт. Воздушные бои на востоке сильно отличались от боев на западе.

  • @hoffmann9471 about 3000 hurricanes and 1300 spitfires reached the USSR. They were mostly ex RAF machines that had been refurbished. Britain had an extensive rebuilding program for worn out and damaged aircraft. Possible because damaged aircraft that returned were never to far from British factories. Of the approx 14000 Hurricanes built approx 7000 were rebuilt to as new standard. Of the approx 22,000 Spitfires approx 3500 were rebuilt. The same happened with Lancaster and Halifax bombers

  • @lape2002 Cheers! I didn't have the thunderbolt/arrow on my decals either, I just masked it off with tamiya tape... very carefully! (Gerbil is new account). The cannons were scratch built too.

    Dave.

  • Awesome, I want to build ''White 538'', have the MPD decals for it but doesn't come with the thunderbolt marking, what decals did you use?

  • @McLarenMercedes I bet the Finns were extremely grateful not to be overrun like the rest of Europe :)

  • @McLarenMercedes Yeah, take whatever you can get your hands on! The Ppsh was a copy of a Finnish gun if I recall correctly.

  • Well the Germans used a lot of captured weapons throughout the war themselves. The Ppsh41 submachine gun was the 3rd most common weapon in the Germany army on the eastern front. T34 tanks were captured and used by the Germans. Even some captured B17 and B24 bombers were in German use.

  • Actually Finland was forced to make peace with them in 1944. They could keep almost all Finland on the condition all the German forces were thrown out of Finland by the Finns themselves. This the Finns did. They kept their end of the bargain as did the Soviets. The alternative was an invasion like that happened in Eastern Europe.

My great grandfather fought in the Finnish WInter War.
