The ONLY stereotype that can be VERIFIED about Texans is that we say YA'LL !
My family has land, but been to it ONCE & wanted to LEAVE when I got there (I'm a city girl). Being from Houston, I never understand when people from other states come to the city and STILL be surprised that they DON'T get to see any horses on the street or a Saloon with cowboys or that no one eats BBQ EVERYDAY(ew!). Who comes up with these things?

@TheEmeraldshapale GO HOUSTON !!! some people still think Texas is just a series of small towns, when in actuality we have some of the biggest cities in the U.S, with Houston being 3rd, just behind New York, and LA. but i guess we're the black sheep of the family of big cities because of our states negative history. Also the diversity atleast in Houston is fantastic.. being a black girl here everyone is so friendly and treated the same.. even people from the middle east

I'm from east Texas. 1/5 people I know have some land. All most everyone has boots. I have horses. And a accent. And almost everyone is conservative. Btw bush lost less money in 8 years than Obama has in 3

im from texas, i dont have an accent, i dont own a ranch i definately do not have cowboy boots, i dont own a horse, but what is tru is that the people here are usually pretty nice and the state has an awesome history, i never get bored in texas history class......

These stereotypes of Texas saying that we're all a bunch of uneducated, prejudiced, hillbilly rednecks are all wrong. The closest thing to a redneck you can find here is some middle class guy that likes to hunt and fish. If you want to see a TRUE redneck, go to Louisiana. There are a lot of farms here, just like EVERY other state.

Thank you. Thank you so much! I get amazed by the questions people ask me about Texas. Ah, stereotypes. Fun stuff!

Nobody says 'y'all' down here in south Texas....

I'm a Texan but my mom's from St. Louis and my dad is from... well he lived in a military family so he was everywhere. Luckily I don't have the twang but every Texan is probably guilty of saying "ya'll" occasionaly. Texas is actually a lot of different cultures, but the true hillbilly Texans fit a lot of those stereotypes. Haha you should see our county fairs. I think people in different countries might stereotype us more than others in the U.S.
Well, I have a hat, I outgrew my boots, I own a ranch, no I don't have a horse, I'm conservative and Catholic, I have the accent.... this applies to a lot of people in North Texas actually. lol

@polemomaniac Well, there is always a bit of truth to stereotypes. I mean, if there were no Texans with ranches or accents no one would think there were. And to be honest I do love a good Texan accent probably because I hear so few. =/

Bahhahahahaha, awesome!! When I first moved to the UK I got ALL the typical "Do you do this, do you do that, where are your cowboy boots?" kinds of questions!! And I'd say of all the states that Texas is probably the one with the most expected stereotypes attached, like people really expect you to BE the stereotype, it's funny though to dash people's hopes with the boring truth, lol....

@phemohilia I know! I kind of hate to tell them that I'm just a regular non-cowgirl like they are.

i used to completly believe that texas being heavily racist was a thing of the past...but recently i've seen young people on talk shows who contribute their VERY racist attitudes to being brought up in texas....
they said there was still kllan meetings and everything :S so it made me think some of the stereotype is true

@tally24th Being raised in Texas doesn't make you a racist. There are people that are from Texas that are racist but the fact of their geography does not effect there feeling towards people. Racism is everywhere, as unfortunate as that fact is. As long as there are people with weak enough minds to fall for the crap Klan leaders spew out there will always be people joining.
