Neil deGrasse Tyson's keynote address at the Goddard memorial in 2005. Speaking in front of an audience of 1800, the charismatic Dr. Tyson unashamedly (but also hilariously) confronts such controversial subjects as the feeble state of American scientific literacy after years of President Bush. Other topics include the future of America's economy, security, and future in space, as well as reflections on education, pop culture, international relations, NASA and religion.

The Dr. Robert H. Goddard Memorial Dinner is a major event in the Washington Space Club calendar, first celebrated in 1958. Held annually, in late March or early April, near the anniversary of the first successful flight by Dr. Goddard of a liquid-fuelled rocket, this event brings together members of the government, industry and educational space community.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is a popular television personality, author and astrophysicist. Tipped as the next director of NASA, he is heir to Carl Sagan's legacy as one of the world's leading popularisers of Science. Since 1996, he has served as the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and has hosted a successful PBS educational series entitled NOVA ScienceNOW. The author of several books, including 'Death by black hole' and 'The Pluto Files', he was recently voted 'sexiest astrophysicist' by People magazine and one of TIME magazines 100 most influential people.
