Here are pictures of non-toxic veggies that your parrot may enjoy. Like humans, parrots have individual tastes, and may take a little while before deciding they like a food... so be patient, try new things, and just give them little portions at a time.
PARSLEY WARNING: parsley is ok to feed your parrot in small quantities, but if you feed it to them too often they may become light sensitive - which means that it will hurt your parrots eyes when exposed to light... one symptom of this in cockatiels is if orange feathers start appearing around the neck (im not talking about the orange cheeck patch) so its ok to feed your parrot parsley, but keep it to once a week at the most.

  • I adopted a quaker parrot and parakeet. They were only fed sunflower seeds (quaker) and some seed that looks like grass seed (parakeet) . I can get the quaker to ear some apple so far but they wont eat the new food at bought at the petstore. Any ideas on how to get them to eat some fruits abd veggies since they only seem to eat what they were given before i got them.

  • @onedragonfly KEEP TRYING! and keep trying and keep trying. If you had only eaten one thing your whole life, other foods might at first seem scary or yucky. Or you might not even know they are foods at all! Parrots are very curious, so keep putting a variety of fresh foods in their cage and after a while you might notice a big change. It might seem like a waste of food at first, but so worth it in the long term. I highly recommend you watch my 2 sprouting birdseed videos, an easy new food 4 them

  • I heard a rumour that you can feed them green chilli is it okay n if you do give it to them what are the symptoms

  • @khawarrazashah i have heard that people feed their parrots chillis, or more commonly chilli seeds. i have tried them with my birds but they show no interest, so i cant tell you about any side effects ive noticed. capsicum would be a safer option - because even if they like and tolerate the chilli heat, they could still get it in their eyes etc which could be bad. thats just my thoughts tho!

  • My Quaker Parrot loves chili peppers. Red better than green. He's not quite 3 months old so trying to get him to try as many good foods as possible but it seems that hot peppers are his favorite.

  • Its hard to know whats right or wrong as far as online info... i guess i just go with my own instincts when unsure about something. the thing about brussel sprouts being toxic etc was only in excessive quantities, so keep eating them without fear! I will be saving all of my bell pepper seeds now - thanks for sharing that! i was also thinking of giving my birds some of my spice seeds to try - caraway, cumin, corriander etc.. ill let you know how that works out.

  • that's a shame-i love brussel sprouts!! recently i googled parsley + toxic to birds and there are just as many articles saying it's safe as there are saying it's not! one said it was only a problem with water fowl and ostriches because it makes them sensitive to light. it's amazing how much info changes on the net after only a year or two! my vet gave me a tip-that bell pepper seeds are one of the healthiest seeds to give birds. my guys really like them. thanks for the info!

  • i just found some interesting info in a nutrition book for humans - its called "nutrition for life" by catherine saxelby...its says "brussel sprouts, broccoli, swedes and parsley allinclude toxic substances that are far more harmful than any food additive" but doesnt say why! it also says " brussel sprouts, broccoli, swedes and turnips can antagonise the working of the thyroid gland - but do not harm us because of the small quantities" thats for humans... but i thought about our conversation

  • Oh thanks

I'll try to avoid it ,too.
