Brisbane Festival 2011: Rhinoceros In Love

Considered China's most successful play of all time, Rhinoceros in Love has been performed more than 800 times and watched by over one million people.

They are drawn not only by the very modern and dark love story, but by the pop-littered soundtrack and the breathtaking language; the direct yet poetic lines, which were such a departure for Chinese theatre and are adored by actors and audiences alike.

Weaving tightly between tragedy and comedy, it sketches out the tale of rhinoceros-keeper Ma Lu, a man who develops a dangerous romantic fascination with the women of his dreams: the uncompromising, unobtainable Mingming.
