For four years, thousands of British servicemen fought with the Taliban for the district of Sangin - the most violent part of Afghanistan. The fighting cost 106 British lives, including Staff-Sergeant Olaf Schmidt, who won the George Cross there.

Last year, the British withdrew - handing the area over to the US Marines. Ben Anderson, who was with the British forces in 2007, returns to see if the Americans are faring any better. His remarkable film follows Lima Company, a unit of the US Marines, as they dodge improvised bombs and struggle to reclaim the same territory the British previously occupied.

@paisagonzalo100 no actually china is no.1 now, an yes the united states have a bigger army then the british, but the british soldiers are better trained an better qualified then the american soldiers, our special forces are better aswell, the SAS will smoke the navy seals, the only thing america has that is better then the british is the CIA an FBI compared to the MI5 an MI6 an that just means they are better at spying on their own people an other countries

@TheSideShort yeah the americans help us out alot during ww2, but we are talking about 1812, an look up what training american troops do to get in the army then look up normal infantry training for the UK, u will see alot of diffrence, how long do the ameicans train for b4 they are a quallified soldier?

@EDL4LYF Do you realize the British desperately needed troops, supplies, and tanks in WW2 which the Americans gave us? don't bash on American troops, just because you aren't American. They're just as trained and heavily qualified if not MORE than our troops.

@epstone ok technically your side "won" in the 1812 war but not bcoz of the americans, the spanish an french are the only reason ur side won. if we had been defeated by the americans why couldnt the americans attack us just b4 ww2 it was called "plan red" look it up, now if i beat someone up im sure i could go back an do it again, but america saw no way of winning if they attacked the british just like now, our troops are more trained an better qualified then the americans
