Parallel Dance Ensemble are the
disco-not-disco duo Coco Solid and Bobbi Soxx
(producer Robin Hannibal). The off-beat pair
pumps out jams that are funny, slightly
sinister and sassy as hell. The respected
Danish producer from Owusu & Hannibal (who
could forget the classical Album "Living With"
from 2006 released on Ubiquity), Quadron and
Boom Clap Bachelors joins forces with the
underground New Zealand MC. Coco has already
toured internationally playing alongside the
likes of Spankrock, Sway, Girltalk, Flight of
the Conchords, Beans, Roger Sisters and Acid
Girls. Together, PDE's tongue in cheek joints
have all the hallmarks of an early 80's party
and beam you back to the glorious days of
Disco Rap complete with Salt'N'Pepa haircut,
Reebock Pumps and tones of Hubba Bubba in your
mouth. Retro Futuristic in the truest sense of
the word. You could sum up PDE's music as
electronic disco funk or think of Tom Tom Club
and Pop Group having a block party with M.I.A
and New Young Pony Club. After their
well-received 12" release in 2009 on Yam Who's
ISM label (which got much love from James
Murphy, Maurice Fulton, Horse Meat Disco to
Danny Wang and Metro Area ) the duo now
follows through with the steamy and synthed
out 'Possessions & Obsessions' EP on Permanent
Vacation. The EP consists of nine individually
great songs all released digitally, as well as
five tracks on a spicy vinyl 12". So, try not
to have this songs in your head all day after
you press play!
