The cardboard strip as wicking material hasn't been effective. So this next attempt is using potting soil to wick up the water to the seeds. I think this has a much better chance of working.
@Glucoperon I answer your question in my latest update, but in short: best for simple wicking is probably grow-wool. But I like using the soil because it allows me to add micro-nutrients and compost.
@Glucoperon , I use biodegradable pots in a cup filled with gravel. The pots wick the water to the gravel for germination and enhance root growth once the plants take off.
