As PBS President & CEO, Paula Kerger is a strong advocate for the power of media to help everyone explore new worlds, discover new ideas and broaden personal horizons. Over the last four years, Paula has led the transformation of PBS from a solely broadcast organization to a multi-platform leader that serves Americans through television, mobile TV, the Web and interactive whiteboards in the classroom and more while building on the organization's commitment to innovation with its work in children's media, journalism and the arts. Under her leadership, PBS is closing the achievement gap with children's series that emphasize critical literacy skills and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education through acclaimed series, including Super Why!, Sid the Science Kid, Dinosaur Train and others. Recognizing the nationwide crisis in reportorial and investigative journalism, PBS is harnessing digital media to expand its coverage and analysis of important issues across the globe and deep within individual communities with icon programs, such as Frontline, the relaunched PBS NewsHour and the new series, Need to Know, growing digital platforms, as well as station-based projects that meet local information needs. Another key project is making the arts more accessible to all Americans with on-air programming and an online initiative debuting this fall. The public media enterprise is extending its reach through online video portals for both general audience and children and by forging distribution partnerships with Hulu, iTunes, YouTube, and many others.
