In October of 2009, the Upper Perkiomen Chamber of Commerce hosted another series of train excursions over the old Perkiomen Branch of the Reading Railroad. Much like the previous year, this year consisted of the ex-Reading FP7A Diesel Locomotives #902 & #903. They will be pulling a quartet of passenger cars, a boxcar, and on the north end, will be East Penn Railroad's ex-Conrail GP10 #7554 (nee-NYC GP9). This video compiles of a few shots from the entire weekends, some from Saturday and a few from Sunday. If you're a fan of beautiful scenery, the Reading Railroad, or "Covered Wagon" diesel locomotives, then this is the video-preview for you!

The full-length feature video will be for sale this June. Stay tuned for further details.

  • Was the GP10 ever in Jim Thorpe PA?

  • @guitboxchicken No, not 7554. There was I think 7579 and 757-something.

  • @CSX6000 This East Penn Railroad is not associated with Rail Tours Inc.

  • Awesome video as always, Adam! Those F's have outstanding K5LA's. Favorited!

By the way, are you attending the CRHS Philly 09 / Riding the CR Express?

  • I will be chasing the E8s tomorrow. =)

  • I was there and remember it well, those diesels are AWESOME!

  • Sweet! Good lookin fp7! The k5la on it is okay, but it needs to get an original horn, like an M5 or a pair of A200's.

  • @CSX6000 Thanks! Does the same company that owns 7554 own the ones that were in Jim thorpe? I'm trying to figure out where all the rolling stock that was ever associated with Rail Tours Inc. is. It's kind of a personal quest. I know the the ones that were in Jim Thorpe were leased to RTI...

  • Maybe when the URHS finishes restoring Ex-NJT 424 as Reading 284, it can join these two units in excursion train duties.

  • Its a K5L on the first F unit not a K5La, a P3 on the Geep, and an M5 on F unit 903 it must have had the horn changed at some stage.

  • It is a straight K5LA. I know the people who switched the horns Sunday; and they ain't no dummies.
