On Nova Science Now, we witness emergence and spontaneous order in flocks of birds, schools of fish, humans, markets, neurons, and computer networks. This is the Wisdom of Crowds, and how the "invisible hand" of free market capitalism coordinates people to serve each other without leadership; also known as "anarchism".

  • @tdarnold Evolution is the unifying theory of biology. It's pretty important to consider the history of living things in order to study their present form.

  • Who says that the leader is not part of the group whole? I am not a fan of inequality. To me, a top position is just another position. If you have a group formation in the shape of a triangle, someone ends up at the head. To me, this should not be based upon race, sex, color, class, but the person with the best vision.

In tribal societies the hunter that brought in the most kills was the head of the team. It wasn't planned, people's skills were the key element.

  • This is a very interesting topic, but as most science goes it is always examined first thru the glasses of evolution.
