Thank you so much for doing this! And getting it up so quickly! Seeing your video has made me feel so much better. Upon seeing "Science: It's a Girl Thing!" I was enraged, frustrated, sad, etc. Now I can laugh about it! The best part was the first line - pretty like unicorns! LOVE IT! Seriously, great job!

Yes. Your 9 word drive-by comment *is* passive aggressive and devoid of substance. I wasn't going to say anything, but now that you bring it up...

Here's a recent tweet from Curt Rice, noted researcher: "@curtrice:

I was 1 of 5 "gender experts" for #sciencegirlthing - the advertisers ignored our advice 100%. Will blog on the process, maybe." The ad execs' choice was a major fail.

This totally ROCKED. Shared the dumb "Science its a girl thing" and then yours on my Facebook page. Hopefully your awesomeness will over power the EC's stupidity.

    Thanks for doing this.

    Watch "Stupid girl - Pink"

Now hopefully you get the idea of why the video is offensive :P (meaning the original of course not this one)

That video wasn't sexist towards women. It was sexist towards both sexes o.O

We all got the (correct) point about the women in the video being... less than representative of women in general. The best point I think you made is "ty for reminding us why we did science in the first place". Because that add just had nothing to do with science at all.

Also, did you get a look at microscope man? I (a m physics student) was insulted by how helpless and clueless he was portrayed to be when seeing girls.

The target audience is that group of young women who DO like girly things and who DO have an adolescent interest in boys and who currently feel EXCLUDED because they view scientists as drab and boring - everything that they don't want to be.

The message is very simple - “A career in science is not incompatible with your personal aspirations. You don’t have to be drab and boring to be a scientist.”.

Try to be a little more objective. You are a scientist after all.

    hi, 1notyourmum1

...could you please elaborate on how female scientists existed in ancient Egypt? I thought the empiric scientifical method was born during the renaissance.

And secondly, about the scientists you mentioned during the middle ages? I thought folks were quite patriarchal back then. In fact, I cant find any decent article about the Ladies of Salerno...what I have been able to piece together is that they merely transcribed greek texts and knew how to treat the ill...but scientists?
