Yes, the poor little triangular cats are being tortured. Never mind that they're jumping from seawater in unison, rocketing 40 feet into the air, like some sort of bizarre, howling, aqua-ballet, in a vivid contrast to the sometimes overwhelmingly serious tone of the source material. Never mind that THE ORIGINAL GAME programmed the cats to do that in water. Nah, let's focus on the imagined plight of the digital cats. Surely each one had seven kits, all parentless now.
What a shame.

I never realized Deus Ex was this realistic. Almost every cat I've seen has had this much of an aversion to water.
