The eToims® Technique and ET127 (www.etoims.com) are the patented inventions of Jennifer Chu, M.D., Emeritus Associate Professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the U of PA Medical School. eToims® locates and diagnoses presence of irritable trigger points/nerve-muscle junctions (NMJs). eToims® is the only available proprietary surface stimulation that induces deep twitches from NMJs of muscles closest to the bone and joints to relieve pain by enabling muscles to relax: (1) Releasing tightness and tension on affected body areas, (2) Increasing intramuscular blood flow which improves tissue oxygenation, while (3) Concomitantly increasing outflow of pain-producing muscle tissue wastes. The ability of eToims® to allow tight muscle spasms to fatigue and relax removes the vice-like effect of these tight muscles on entrapped nerves and blood vessels within the muscles as well as to remove the pulling effects that these tight muscles have on underlying pain sensitive receptors of bone and joints. The ease by which nerves are easily stimulated, resulting in muscle contraction to obtain large force twitches, is diagnostic of the presence of acute irritation of the spinal nerve root(s) supplying these muscles. These trigger points will fatigue rapidly. The twitches that initially respond rapidly to stimulation can be seen to stop abruptly as the muscle becomes fatigued and unable to respond to further electrical stimulation at the same trigger point. Trigger point stimulation is painless and pleasurable. Optimal time to treat is when individuals do not have pain since the muscles are softer and the stimulation is able to reach the deepest layers of the muscles apposed to bones and joints. These deepest muscles in spasm, produce the most pain since the ischemia from the constriction of nerves and blood vessels within the muscular cramp plus the muscle tightness/shortening pull on pain sensitive bone and joint coverings.
eToims® is ideal for athletes and by treating athletes before they have actual pain, increases their safety margin and by preventing injury, increases their peak performance and prolong their professional life. By applying eToims® as soon as they feel nerve-muscle pain/discomfort, can decrease their injury downtime since the muscles will be more responsive to treatment. Playing sports with restricted range of motion and tight muscles gives inefficient contraction making the muscles easily tired and prone to injury. The world's most famous tennis champion uses eToims® regularly for his tendonitis. Ideally, all athletes should have eToims treatments before and after games or practice.
eToims® is useful for muscle pain/discomfort in the neck, mid-back, lower back, arm, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, foot pain, tension headaches, myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, whiplash, repetitive strain injuries, tendonitis, bursitis, rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, early carpal tunnel syndrome, sports injuries, degenerative/bulging/disc/herniated disc, spinal stenosis
