I must add that on the rare occasion Norrington tried to get a glimpse of happiness, the world would just shit on him. All the other characters got what they wanted no matter what the means were, but Norrington always ended up alone and miserable. Someone who puts up with that much shit and ends up doing the right thing in the end is a hero.

I'll post it anyway. It'll just be broken & upside down. You cannot call Norrington inhuman; you have no grounds to do such. Being human is about making mistakes, learning from them, & then making amends. James Norrington did all of that. He was an honorable man in His Majestys Royal Navy, but he did know right from wrong & did not simply follow orders blindly. Under his hard exterior Norrington was a shy, sensitive, & generous man.
