Having seen how successful my YouTube Poop of this TV special, which has always been a childhood favorite of mine, I present to you the original version in a high-quality presentation, the same source material I used for the poop! Puff the Magic Dragon helps out a young boy named Terry who becomes obsessed with his imaginary friend, a duck named Nobody which he eventually uses as an excuse for his great artwork and musical talents.

This part includes the song "Never Was a Feather" by Peter Yarrow.

  • I swear that duck sounds like the late Dom Deluise! XPPPP AM I RIGHT??

  • @BoogsterSU2 It sounds a little like him, but it is actually the late Robert Ridgley.

  • 0:13 omg the tree in the background scares the piss outta me

  • The scene at 5:22-5:47 sure makes me think of that brand-new CGI film "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs."

  • I was a Terry myself..wow. No wonder why I've always loved Puff the Magical Dragon,so relevant.

  • Ah, darn. I was looking all over for this to use as material for a Youtube Poop because I thought it hadn't been used yet. Oh well. Thanks for the upload.

  • I loved this cartoon as a kid, I wish I could get them on DVD.

  • The piano teacher made me laugh my ass off.

  • I was JUST like Terry as a kid. (sigh)

  • I remember this from my childhood, but only the part where Terry says the saucepan part and Nobody first appears, and when Terry runs away and falls into the lilacs.

The song about Terry and Nobody is very nice, and I like how Puff makes references to the song about himself.

    2:23 Is that sign language?

  • How many Puff films were there? I barely remember Mr. Nobody. I mostly remember the original Jackie Draper episode. And there's nothing wrong with a little urine.

  • @wileyk209zback Could be (I wouldn't blame when such a transfer was made, they did their best with what they had back then). Having noticed stills from the special that was published in a book, it appears the original film source did have more blues and reds in the picture that appear more green and brown here. I'm sure if they ever do a digital transfer of it someday, it'll certainly help bring it out more.

  • @RetroToledo I think the first special was originally aired in that urine-like color quality; chances are maybe the film quality wasn't that great for some reason when they transferred it to videotape for airing back in 1978. I know it was always like that on VHS releases throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

  • @wileyk209zback Seems like the DVD release is pretty much the same as it was on VHS. I only wish the first special looked a little better though quality-wise. The colors seem so urine-soaked.
