  • I got to see Delmar's in 2001 at the Visalia Air show. Loved this plane so much I did a painting of it sitting on the runway. Check it out in my 2003 painting section at ericmecum

  • @Meekmanvideo

I was at that air show too. :-)

  • I had Delmar's aeroplane in my hangar at Leesburg, VA for just over a month back in '97...kept it there for him between two airshows. I was allowed to taxi the ship from the hangar to the other end of the airport and back, and even THAT convinced me I don't want to fly it...and I've flown a lot of what some consider 'tricky' ships!

  • That must have been a thrill, I've seen Him (Delmar) at many airshows back in the '90s and He came here to Visalia a couple of times, we got to talk to Him just before the airplane was retired. We also had Jim Franklin here at the same time, both great pilots.

  • B-17 had Wright Cyclones, the Gee Bee had a P/W Wasp.

  • .Why Your video has only sound on the left you made me think that my headphones are Broken!!!! lol

  • I loved that biplane that also had a turbojet. Forget who the pilot was. Sounds were fantastic.

  • Favorite Band - Bee Gees

    Favorite Airplane - Gee Bee.

Both are, pardon my language, but BAD ASS!

  • At 1:59, look how much Delmar Benjamin has to work the rudder just to keep the plane straight! It’s amazing how unstable these planes were. Not surprisingly, the radio-controlled versions of them are unstable and difficult to fly as well!

  • Jimmy Doolittle volunteered to fly this plane even though on it's first flight ever it had killed a famous air race pilot... damn, Doolittle had balls! I know I certainly wouldn't have done it! The Gee Bee was notorious for being unstable because it's fuselage was so short.

  • What an excellent clip!

Particularly like that shot at 2:21, with the Wedell Williams racers and the hand prop swinging of the R2. Looks a handful at 1:57, lots of pedaling going on to keep it pointing the right way. Talent... there are some people these days who think the docile old PA-18-150 is a "beast" LOL!!! Thumbs up and favorite video for me.

  • Who designed this plane!?!... Walt Disney?
