oh wow. I have been trying to find a way to work the midi instruments in garageband for a bit now, as I don't even have a keyboard (and would rather not have one for lack of space). Needless to say, this looks a ton more fun than 'musical typing', copy/paste, etc. Is the controller itself of good manufacturing quality, or does it actually feel like a 'video game' guitar/toy?

Yes you can, you have to manual change the settings of the synth instrument, or step down each note in the piano roll setting on the recorded track.

No it does not detects string vibrato.
Any vibrato type sound is produce with software synth instruments.
