An absolutely outstanding track "Bhajan de Mira - en Hindi Raga Bhairavi" taken from Lakshmi Shankar's Album "Les Heures Et Les Saisons" (Season & Time, 1987). Listen & Enjoy it.

Lyrics (free translation):
"..I have made a funeral pyre with sandalwood and incense. Come, ignite it with your own hand. And when it has become a pile of ash, smear it on your body. Light my light with yours, make my soul merge in yours."

Lakshmi Shankar (Sister-in-law to sitar maestro Ravi Shankar, mother-in-law to renowned violinist Dr. L Subramaniam) is one of the greatest contemporary vocalists in the northern Indian classical tradition, a brilliantly expressive interpreter of khayal and bhajan forms. The clarity and precision of her melodious, three octave range voice is awesome.

Personnel:
Lakshmi Shankar: Vocals, Swaramandala
Lakshminarayana Shankar: Violin
Sadanand Naimpalli: Tabla
Joanna Foresta: Tambor (tempura)

  • AWESOME! :) Isn't it a Beautiful Meera Bhajan!

Yet Another World Music GEM from Tiad's "World Music Oasis"!:)

(This has been one of my favorite Meera Bhajans by THE Classical Singer, of India, LAKSHMI SHANKAR! that I absolutely have loved singing myself, ever since I bought THIS CD in 87' in Basel, Switzerland! :)

LOVE the way she modulates her rich voice in consonance with the depth of the heartrending plea, within the lyrics! Soul-stirring rendition! Thanks Tiad! :) Love, Ritu. 2 NOV' 10' USA

  • Though I've absolutely LOVED the Melody, the Fervor of this BEAUTIFUL Meera Bhajan in L.Shankar's Version, (as is obvious from my comment of 2nd Nov.10') What's absolutely ...AMAZING to me,...is THAT -

" I HAD been singing this very bhajan, LOL, the last couple of days,...with ALL the Soul-stirring, heartrending FERVOR I could muster, LOL, & JUST found out @ 10:00pm, 3rdJAN2011, that a "DEAR Musical Friend" of mine too, uploaded the SAME, albeit in Lataji's Version Today!

    Co-incidence?? LOL! :)
