Once again I visit this and once again I prefer Sarahs version to anything else ,Heifetz anybody,nobody plays with the soul and beauty that Sarah pulls out on this performance ,my god and she did this at 11 years old ,just unbelievable !!

Sarah Chang Burnt out ?

I have seen her live twice in the last 2 years in Uk and amazing both times, last time was in london in april last year were she played Bruch violin concerto and brought the house down. Sarah was amazing that night and people all around me who had not seen her play live before were absolutely stunned at the power and intensity of her performance.

my favorite recording is by leonid kogan. for the warm, lovely romantic tone...check out oistrakh's. it leaves nothing to be desired.

people should be nice on these posts... watching people like sarah, jascha, leonid, ol' gilly and pinky (we're all very familiar, you see) is how i taught myself to play.

whoever maintains the arts these days is a gift. my gf comments on this music, that it expresses something deeper in humanity. people usually only lie by talking.. this music is more honest

i'm not a big fan of sarah's playing in general, not because she isn't remarkable. she is...a complete child prodigy (who i think has burned out, sadly). the modern style of playing where everything is lush and romantic misses some of the longing and coldness of this movement.

heifetz' recording from tthe late 20s allows one to hear the cold, aching in this piece...the longing for warmth. but not the warmth itself. it makes one beg for the drunken, jolly character of the 3rd movement.
