  • Hokkien is Hokkien.....not Taiwanese.

Do you see people in America saying they speak "Americanlish"?

    It is still called English.

So it's the same here, the language is still called Hokkien, not made into new term "Taiwanese"

  • there are different types of hokkien in different places or countries, I put taiwanese" is just for people know that the song is dialect of taiwan. and how many non-chinese or western people know that wat is "hokkien" mean or sound like? in taiwan is known as 閩南語, and for China they do call them 台語

  • is there other new Taiwanese song by Fish Leong recently? Pls update. TQ in anticipation. TQ 4 uploading.

  • nope, but the new album is coming up now, got 3 new cantonese song i think, 1 of it is already out some time

  • I think the media should actively promote dialect songs such as this to allow the youngster nowadays to not forgot their dialect this is a nice song

  • We call it Taiwanese because it's a language that about 80% of the population can understand and the most spoken in the country side ( specialy the south). Calling it "Taiwanese"is not bastardize it , it's like saying "Chinese" instead of mandarin or Beijing hua .

  • What ever it is, i speak both Hokkien and Taiwanese and Teochew =]

  • Hokkien=Taiwanese=Minnanhua=Fujianese.. there are slight difference in each place but the primary language is the same.

These all fall into the Chinese language Min hua. Although each dialect has slight differences they are all esentially the same language.

This petty argument would be like saying Cantonese and Taishanese are two seperate languages. They are both sub dialects of Yue..

Americans speak American (English), which is a dialect of English.

You guys are pathetic..read a book...

  • Fish Leong also known as Jasmine Leong , is a Malaysian-Chinese, plus she is my distant relatives. =]

  • @Bokai LOL! nvr though of it that way and i end up replyin one month later ><

  • @konochan23 This isn't a rip on you or anything (specially after 6 months) but I always find it amusing when people say one group has the accent and the other doesn't. I get what you mean, it's just any Taiwanese would probably say it was the other way around!

  • @PeaceAmbassador22 "Taiwanese" is largely Hokkien, but there are many words adopted from Japanese that wouldn't be in the Hokkien spoken in mainland China. As for "Americanlish" - that just exposes your own ignorance. If you meet anyone who's studied language, you'd know that they do differentiate between "American English," "British English," etc. because there are pertinent differences in the way that the language is used.

  • Real Taiwanese is majority of peoples speak d language not aboriginal. For exmple, Real Australian, real Americal, real Canadians all speak English. Real Malaysian speak Malays. Real Singaporean speak Mandarin/English. Real Brazilian speak Portuguese. Real South American & Mexican speak Spanish. Real New Zealander speak English not Maoris. Real Hongkongers speak Cantonese not Mandarin.

  • @stevenchiang8281 because "taiwanese" is really same as Hokkien which is spoken by many ethnic chinese in maylaysia.

  • Taiwan independence politicians use hoklo as a political tool because most of people speaking hoklo feel "taiwanese at heart" and because the KMT forbid them to speak their native language until Lee Tung Hui . Besides, if you look at Ma Ying Jeou last electoral campaign you will see that the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) uses it too because they want to brainwash grassroots.

Paradoxal after fighting it for so many years.
