  • @PrincessGwendolen So one side IS arguing for equal rights, and one side is being deceptive in what they're arguing about. That's the anti-gay side. They're not arguing about the definition of marriage. The truth is; they're bigots who hate gay persons, and they want to shove their religion down everyone's throats. That's what's really going on here.

  • @PrincessGwendolen It doesn't balance out. They're not equal rights, and gays want equal rights. Men should have the right to marry men just as women do, and women should have right to marry women just as me do. Not equal.

  • @nickmorrison1100 The only reason I'm arguing semantics is because when you have one group saying that they're fighting for equal rights, and another group saying that they're fighting to protect the definition of marriage, you end up with a parallel argument which can never be resolved. If gay rights groups would say "yes, we want the definition of marriage changed", at least both groups would be arguing about the same thing and there would be more chance of resolution.

  • @nickmorrison1100 That's a weak argument because it balances out - neither men nor women have the right to marry someone of the same sex.

"Both sets have their own set of special rights, but they're not equal rights."

They are equal though, unless you're implying that men and women aren't equal so the right to marry one is better than the right to marry the other.

  • @DragonAurora I don't piss and moan when you oppose the idea; just as long as you let them have equal rights.

  • @nickmorrison1100 Umm....they can have whatever the hell they wanna have, but don't piss and moan when someone voices their opposition to the idea.

  • @PrincessGwendolen I see what you're saying. Let me present this idea to you: Let's not call it one matter of equal rights for gays. Let's call it two matters; one of equal rights for men, and one of equal rights for women. Currently; men do not have equal rights as women, because women are allowed to marry men, where as men cannot. Women do not have the same right to marry women as men do. Both sets have their own set of special rights, but they're not equal rights. What are your thoughts?

  • @nickmorrison1100 You're missing the point. If the law said I could only marry someone of the same sex, I would be fighting for the rights of straight couples, just as I said that I believe gay couples should have the same rights as straight couples. It's still not an equal rights issue though; there will always be restrictions on marriage such as age of consent and incest laws, but if I wanted to marry my brother that wouldn't mean that I don't have the same rights as everyone else.

  • @DragonAurora Lol. You don't have to agree with their lifestyle; you just have to let them have equal rights.

  • @bret14jb @Princess; "Currently in most states, the definition of marriage is a union between a man and a woman"

I know, and that's what we're trying to change.

"a gay person has just as much right to enter into that as a straight person does"

Except that straight persons have the right to marry who they want, and homosexuals do not. So it is about an equal rights issue. Imagine if the law said that you could only marry persons of the same sex. Then YOU'D be fighting for equal rights.
