There are 3 pulleys on the input shaft with the belt shifter. The center pulley is keyed to the shaft and drives it. The outer 2 pulleys are idlers that spin freely .
The outer crossed belt moves to the center pulley to drive the table back forward for the next cut. The inside belt runs straight to drive the table into the cut.
The drive pulley on top for the crossed belt is larger so the table will return faster than it cuts to allow for more of the operating time to be cutting time.
