Tollers really do attract ducks, I thought it was all myth until I got one and witnessed it for the first time. but of course when you need a camera there isn't one to be found
My toller will walk right past a duck 2' away. but if somthing (anything) makes a splash, that is his switch to retreive. I don't hunt, I just wanted a great family pet.
Does anyone actually know of a video that shows one of these dogs "tolling" ducks? I would have thought that if these dogs actually did do this "tolling" thing that someone would have caught it on vidoeo. And I can't find one.
Just curious, is this dog also known as the Nova Scotia Big Foot Tolling Retiever? Cause, that would explain a lot.

So, you're throwing bread crumbs in the pond to draw the ducks in, or something? I thought that the Toller was supposed to draw them in by playing along the shores edge. That Toller just seemed to be hiding in the rocks above, waiting for the signal to pounce on the ducks, which is something I also heard that Tollers are never supposed to do, pounce upon ducks that haven't been shot at, that is.
Hmmfff!
I'm starting to wonder if this "tolling" stuff is just an old wives tale.

I've never taken my Toller duck hunting. She likes 2 chase squirrels though. Did Otis ever catch a duck?
