  • Farewell Davy.

  • RIP Davy Jones. 2-29-2012

  • @5stringkeith Still not quite correct... only the lyrics were written by Jefferson Hascall as a poem. The tune was penned sometime later by William Bradbury.....

  • WWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW!! I've always loved this song and now I love it even MORE!!! This is soooooo lovely :)

  • :) This is so great... I love this song and the video you put with it! Terrific job! Where it the clip from that starts at about 2:59 / 3:00? He's so adorable there! And I love that lil' wink! Perfect!

  • As I sit here listening to this song on a home computer -the irony hits me-Mike Nesmith's mother became rich by inventing "Write out" to correct typewriter mistakes-after the home computer came out-most young people don't even know what a typewriter is-enough of my musings-great post.

  • As the late Johnny Carson used to say-I Did Not Know That....

  • In all probability, the song's true author(s) may be unknown. Certain songs, particularly spirituals from the 1800s were credited to the singers performing the song as the songwriters were unknown for the most part, certain songwriters such as Stephen Foster being an exception to that rule.

  • i was never the biggest country fan but when my cousin sang this at my uncle's funeral it is now one of my favorite songs of all-time.

such great lyrics and what a wonderful voice.

    thanks for uploading the video.

  • My bad. The song was actually written by two gentlemen named Bradbury and Hascall back in 1860. It has been recorded on numerous occasions-most notably by The Stanley Brothers.
