i don't think you understand what a CI has to offer. if you do not understand both sides of the argument and only look for those who back up your biased opinion then of course you will be against CI. if my child was born deaf and i could afford it then i would get a CI for my child along with teaching him/her how to speak and use sign language. CI is not permanent and if my child doesn't want it they can have it removed and he/she always has sign language and an understanding of speech.

i hate to say it this way cause it makes me sound close minded, but deaf people are simply proud. they see it as a matter of perseverance and strength to make it in the hearing world, and it is! to say otherwise would be retarded. but they are simply proud people who think they get along fine deaf. ya, it is unsure if one will be successful with the CI, but it is even more unsure that one will be successful with deafness. hearing the world's sounds is one of the most beautiful gifts god gave us

@1chocolatpuddin For those born deaf or shortly after as with one of my friends, most don't feel any loss because they've always been that way. Whether the individual wants the chance to hear at any level - or not - is up to them. I personally feel cochlear implants are an amazing gift solely based on the sensation and experience they offer, not based on the notion they were missing something in the first place. It's a technology I would donate liberally towards for continued advancement.

@Boi1o1 They're comparing his signing to speaking chinese as a language they don't understand. I wish this video had subtitles because I cannot read signing and I'm genuinely interested in what he's telling us.

@bobjo23 wait...what does this has to do with speaking chinese 0_0?

Getting an implant or not is nothing but choice. If you don't want to change.. you don't have to. They are not for every deaf person... but are for many. I could understand an argument made such as: God made me this way therefore... but I don't see a valid argument other than you are against them So be against them.

@bobjo23 but that is just the point. we, the hearing majority, feel that deaf people would automatically want to develop the "NORMAL" audible speech. ASL is part of DEAF culture. Hearing people who assume that all Deaf people want to hear is a great assumption on the hearing person's part. I may not understand what this man is saying, however, he is, obviously speaking to HIS audience, not ours. We, the hearing majority, would do well to learn their language not assume they want ours.

@bobjo23 the same could be said about the vast majority of the population that doesn't speak any english.

I dont know why they would be wrong, but this video made me feel deaf and I would rather hear.
I'm sorry, but you may as well be speaking Chinese. One benefit of a cochlear implant, especially for those with congenital deafness, is the chance to develop normal audible speech. With only sign language, you're failing to get your message across to a vast majority of people. Instead, you're highlighting the isolation that comes from not being able to communicate effectively with those that can hear. Seriously, I don't understand anything you're saying.

i'm deaf and i have no idea what you are on about, I got C.I so that makes ASL useless for me.
the reason why you don't like C.I is because you are SCARED of what its like to be in a hearing world so you hide in your quiet land and try to drag other innocent deaf people down with you
