  • Makes sense! Thanks. I did realize that Bontrager's carbon stems are a lot larger than other alloy stems.

  • Because carbon fibers strength is primarily unidirectional, it must either be reinforced with alloy al a Ritcheys stems, or be significantly thicker than regular carbon fiber. In either case the result is a stem that is heavier, and usually not as stiff as an alloy stem. There is no real benefit of a carbon fiber stem other than appearance.
