In 1984, reporter Hilda Bryant and photographer Richard Pauli
traveled to the Northwest Frontier Provinces of Pakistan - to Peshawar and then to Parachinar and then Teri Mangal. Then marching with the Mujahideen in the Jagjit province of Afghanistan.

Early in 1984, Sony Corp released a one-piece broadcast betacam camera, it was a new product that was still untested. They loaned Pauli this camera and donated the tape for coverage of a small aspect of that war during the Soviet occupation. Bryant and Pauli were probably the first broadcast camera and reporter team to enter Afghanistan.

This brief documentary won an Emmy for investigative journalism in 1984 Seattle.

  • @xychr0 lol oh wait, were you serious?

  • @thehotshirtguy2008 Democracy is compatible with Islam; look at Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc.

  • Those russians want democracy because they know and understand the concept. Middle-easterners do not want democracy because it is incompattible with Islam. If we in this country could understand that we wouldn't be in these wars.

  • god help us all....we are your children...we all are......muslims...russians...american...and everybody else....god bless us all......the young..old...women.....children......

  • @Mojo1982 time doesnt change only perception as you pointed out. The propaganda machine is at its full speed. Spitting words like 'war on terror" or Bin Laden when its Bush Bin Laden or Obama bin laden....all spin fpr the new american century of greed and corruption. They were freedom fighters then as they are freedom fighters now - FOR AFGHANS. Thats USA spin bcoz they have to justify a cold blooded and unjust war by calling afghans "terrorists" when they are defending their nation

  • @jamilsuriel do not get the mujaheddin and the taliban mixed up they are very different
