Afghanistan 1984 Scenes from a secret war pt 4/4

In 1984, reporter Hilda Bryant and photographer Richard Pauli
traveled to the Northwest Frontier Provinces of Pakistan - to Peshawar and then to Parachinar and then Teri Mangal. Then marching with the Mujahideen in the Jagjit province of Afghanistan.

Early in 1984, Sony Corp released a one-piece broadcast betacam camera, it was a new product that was still untested. They loaned Pauli this camera and donated the tape for coverage of a small aspect of that war during the Soviet occupation. Bryant and Pauli were probably the first broadcast camera and reporter team to enter Afghanistan.

This brief documentary won an Emmy for investigative journalism in 1984 Seattle.

Those russians want democracy because they know and understand the concept. Middle-easterners do not want democracy because it is incompattible with Islam. If we in this country could understand that we wouldn't be in these wars.

Spitting words like 'war on terror" or Bin Laden when its Bush Bin Laden or Obama bin laden....all spin fpr the new american century of greed and corruption. They were freedom fighters then as they are freedom fighters now - FOR AFGHANS.
