Classic Game Room HD reviews SONIC CD for Sega CD from 1993! This awesome side scrolling platformer uses all of the CD's abilities to deliver awesome music with crystal clear compact disc sound with 1980's laser beam technology! Sonic CD is widely regarded as one of the best Sonic adventures and once you play it you'll see why. Solid 2D side scrolling gameplay mixed with a clever future / past system, enormous levels and an endless array of scoring possibilities makes Sonic CD the Sonic game for fans of old school Sonic the Hedgehog videogames. This CGR review of Sonic CD has gameplay from Sonic CD on the Sega Mega Drive with Mega-CD add on showing Sonic CD game play in action. Also available for PC!

  • The Sega CD didn't have the best library--but Sonic CD, Rise of the Dragon, Final Fight CD, Sega Arcade 5 in 1, SimEarth, Eternal Champions, Shining CD, and the far superior versions of the Ecco games were among their greatest efforts as a first-party (Phantasy Star 4 was originally made for the CD as well). There were a few good third-party games, namely the Lunar series, Robo Aleste, Soul Star, Snatcher, EA Sports and Earthworm Jim. Plus, it was also a CD player, the first for many kids.

  • i searched "worst sidescroling platformer" & this was the 1st. No joke. HOW COULD YOU DO THIS?!

  • it's funny because the songs from the past are from the JP/EUR soundtracks..the original OST for the game. Looks like they couldn't replace those from the past because coding issues, probably for the best I would say, everyone knows the USA music fro this game sucked.

And whoever called this game as the worst platformer of all time is a douche, no sarcasm.

  • @MegaBigboi55 googles(youtubes search) the worst and least accurate of all the search engines, im not joking you can put in a search for monkeys and get results for suns in outer space. this is a good platformer, not as good as the cartridges but thats my personal preferance.

  • xbla version is pretty good, it has a new spindash animation & the option to play as tails.

    Highly recommended

  • Also, those who said some people were lucky to have this game on the GCN by purchasing Sonic Gems Collection, well, those are rather UNLUCKY. The emulation quality of Sonic CD in that collection is terrible, and plus, that version was based on the PC port, which was inferior to the original SEGA CD version.

  • The best Sonic game ever, regardless of what some ignorants might say...

  • They have it on "Sonic Gems Collection" Its pretty cheap for the Gamecube :D

  • I WANT THE SEGA BLURAY FOR THE GENESIS AND I WANT IT NOW!!!

  • got it on ps2

  • worst sidescroling platformer.... maybe he din't had enough patience to understand how the game plays.... its not just time travelling :|

  • One thing's for sure, Nintendo Gamecube owners in the US were very lucky to find this game released as part of "Sonic Gems Collection"! :D
