How to get your hula hoop from your waist up above your head, relatively gracefully, and then to "lasso" the hoop above you.

The hooper here (my lovely sister) is using a hoop made of 160 psi irrigation tubing in a 3/4" width. The hoop is approximately 43" in diameter. For more hoop-specific vids, check out http://www.wolf-river-enterprises.com.

  • Wow! Thank you SOOOO much for posting. I have been hitting my self in the side of the face on my right side and in my shoulder on my left side... this helped TREMENDOUSLY!! Great that you did it from behind... so many people don't show that angle! Also, the "pull up" gesture was helpful, because it made me realize that the hoop will do the work... I was trying to hard to make it do what I thought I wanted it to do. I just started less than 1 week ago, so I'm pretty excited!! Thanks, again!

  • You're most welcome! We certainly wouldn't want you hitting yourself in the face. Happy hooping.

  • nice tutorials you've posted. thans for that. I am a beginner and I made my own hoop. For this trick my hoop seems too heavy, is that possible or am I doing something wrong?

  • Thanks. As long as you don't have water or additional weight, you should be just fine. Maybe you need to build up some hand strength to feel comfortable. The hoop used here is 42", 3/4 inch, 160 psi. That's a fairly standard adult hoop. Good luck.

  • Woohoo! My ultimate goal is a beam-me-up ;-) but I think I needed this as a second step (I could bring hoop down, but not up) and you taught it to me. I had trouble at first because my inactive arm kept knocking the hoop down but I watched what you did with your "off" arm and that was the key - need to slide that "off" arm in close to the body and out of the way!! Thanks again. :-)

  • I'm happy to hear this info was helpful. The beam me up move is fun, fun, fun. Thanks for commenting. ~J

  • thanks! I am practicing the "corkscrew" move! I just attempted video taping myself doing it and of course failed LOL but it's all about practice and patience!

  • thank you!! I have been trying to do this move for a few months now, and I constantly hit myself in the head/face... OY!

gonna go try it again now :)

  • Thanks for posting this. I see why I can't do this move. I can't get my elbow up that high! My shoulders aren't that flexible. I've been struggling with this move for a month. This was helpful, though.
