The great cathedrals were engineering marvels of the medieval world built with not much more than pulleys and ropes, chisels and hammers and set squares. Architectural historian Jon Cannon searches for answers on how these structures were built and the ambition that it took when looking at Glouchester, York, Norwich and Ely. ©BBC

  • cathedrals - heaven on earth

  • @teddythebenny go European monuments

  • what i adore about europe.. was never its words, but its monuments..

  • @catherinesteph we are human, it is the flaws that define us.. flaws that we find in our own prejudices, that creates a ever changing world. Better or for worse, thus, there is no need to worry, as long as you learn.. those who say otherwise, are but naive. Then again, thats just me.

  • I realize I had a typo in the last comment- this is no way reflects the American education system [flawed though it may be] - I don't have on my glasses & I missed a few keys ;D

  • I always love a good history documentary! It seems like they're getting more difficult to by in the states. It seems to me that the US puts far too much focus on science & not nearly enough on History ... [hence I'm watching British documentaries] we do have the History Channel -but an entire series devoted to Medieval European History. What could be better? :D Thanks for the post(s)

  • cathedrals weren't meant to glorify "medieval christianity" they're meant to last forever.. a continuum of creation, God's seat on earth.. :)

  • @kabutali What is the song that plays from 1:24 to 2:57?

  • Praise Jebus.

  • @dixon654654

I believe the credits refer to David Williams.

The songs from his 'The Prophecy' albums sound just like the music here. It could be there.
