In this video I demonstrate the first steps of coding a WordPress theme from HTML / CSS. I also show how you can speed up the process by using Dreamweaver snippets. To create the basic foundation of this theme only took me 26 Minutes.

Second video will cover more advanced development

  • Hello - Happy holidays to all of you - you can download my WordPress Snippets and the Theme Options Panel I use in my Videos from here: wp-ask[DOT]me pleas note that because Youtube will not allow me to add web urls, I have replaced the . with [DOT].

    Thanks for watching...

  • where I get snippets

  • @Ovnistudiopma Thanks for your interest, email me: themesandplugins[AT]gmail[DOT]com I will reply with the most recent snippets library along with the advanced admin panel files.

  • This is perfect for those who already know the structure of a wordpress theme, HTML and CSS. Those who do not will need to get their hands on tutorials that will address those wants before they can get anything out of this.

  • @LaMarquiseDeMerteuil I agree with you 100% - there is definatly a lot of information that has to be learned before you can understand this - which is why I am working to create a video on each area from beginning to end, then compile a playlist. I have just been so busy, completing all the videos is taking me some time :-)

Until then, I'm happy to answer any questions,

  • @ppahppp thanks for the suggestion and complement - I'm always working to make things easier for people to use the materials.

I will incorporate a Read Me in the downloads soon.

  • yes, i did find it... after a bit of a sear, on the wp-ask site. It works now. Thanks for the amazingly fast response. Can I make a suggestion that you put a list of files to get in the description of this file .... you would probs be less likely to get more confused people posting.

    p.s. Good vid man

  • @ppahppp Actually - the panel works with 3.3.1 - I just completed a theme using it - see my vid on Adding theme options directory: - watch?v=tIHT_sDhdiw

A common mistake is to forget to add the theme options "admin" directory to your theme root directory. If it is not present an error for missing path will be returned.

I also suggest you join my free community so you can download the new snippets and other resources. Also watch the A B C training vids - they are newer than this one.

  • I found that the the the section at about 10 min about the logo didn't work for me. The extra menu options didn't appear in the appearance menu in wordpress. Found that The "Initialize Options - functions.php" was needed but not mentioned in video, but the file locations don't seem to work for wordpress 3.3.1. Guess they are renamed or something, it tries to load and then moans about missing file in line 16 of functions.php
