Saakashvili continues visit to Peru

Georgia`s president continues his visit to Peru. Mikheil Saakashvili, who arrived in capital Lima on the invitation of the country`s newly elected leader to take part in Ollanta Humala`s inauguration, attended a military parade with his wife Sandra Roeloefs.

Georgia`s president is the only leader, except the region`s leaders, who was invited to teh ceremony.

Saakashvili, within his visit to Peru, is also holding meetings with leaders of other countries of teh region. He met President of Panama Ricardo Martinelli, with whom discussed bilateral relations and issues of regional significance.

The Georgian leader also held talks with Mayor of Lima. Susana Villarán got interested in the reforms carried out in Georgia and the success achieved by the country. Future cooperation plans were also discussed at the meeting.

Saakashvili also met Alejandro Toledo, who was President of Peru in 2001-1006.

Mikheil Saakashvili also gave an interview to a local TV station.

Leftist Ollanta Humala was sworn in as Peru`s president on Thursday (July 28), taking over the reins of one of the world`s fastest-growing economies as poor voters increasingly demand a share of the country`s boom.

The former army commander, 49, vowed to eradicate poverty and social exclusion.

Mr. Humala defeated right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori in June`s second round.
