This is a Bob Dylan song, based on the murder of Emmett Till, a murder for which no one has been convicted to this day, 53 years later. Dylan sang it on WBAI, a New York radio station, in May of 1962. Dylan was 20 years old at the time. I think he'd just written it prior to that radio appearance, so it may be the first of his justice-denied songs, later ones being The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll, Hurricane, and others. I do not use the melody that Dylan used, but this is how I do it.

  • Duke, what kind of guitar are you playing?

  • @Johnny909 - That's my old Gibson J-50, Johnny. Bought that in 1979.

  • Nice preformance.

Wish you would post a tutorial on how to play this.

  • @koldtoft - I'm not learned that way, but it's Am and G, with a couple bass runs, one being A to B on the A string, D to E on the D string, then a quick slide up the B string.

  • Excellent! You truly captured the essence of all that this song truly is. I too, have covered this song on my page, however, mine is more so a carbon-copy of what Bob once did. Check it out, tell me what you think. -Again, very good performance.

  • by far the best cover of this song on youtube. cheers!
