pt2 Yes Jesus went off on the pharisees but was he telling you the whole truth nothing but the truth so help him GOD! notice how these inflection take place. I didn't use So help him LORD or LORD God!
-
pt1 you can't view the Bible unless you truly know who the Bible is about! who is the Narrative overall about? God then LORD God how again are they the same? The Serpent presumed guilty b4 the final verdict then mostly all the rest of the Torah is about the LORD God except Noah hint hint then back to the LORD God or LORD for short! then we have Jesus whom is tempted by the adversary (Satan) who has all the kingdoms of the Earth.

@jmarmold1 I've read N.T. Wright. He is a good man. But he is a scholar in his religion. He hasn't looked elsewhere. If he put as much effort into other religions he would find that Christianity is a copy of many others. It's dying. Just like the myths of old. People are waking up to the truth of themselves. We are a spirit having a human experience. All religions are a product of man's imaginations.

@jmarmold1 The manuscripts we have for writings such as the Annals of Tacitus or the Twelve Caesars by Suetonius are actually Medieval, and historically proximate to the time written of. In contrast, the New Testament (and the Old by the way) have a stronger witness dating in some instances withing the actual lifetime of the events depicted. Don't fall in the trap of transporting a modern view of what history is onto the 1st century.Gospels and the above works are the same type:roman biography

@oldno74 I would then encourage you to read Dr. N.T. Wright, the most well respected scholarly of 1st century Judaism and the Early Christianity. Real Christianity has absolutely nothing to fear from these kinds of questions. I disagree with your premise however that we have no solid proof. We have just as much evidence for the existence of Jesus of Nazareth as we do for a figure such as Julius Caesar. The manuscript evidence for Jesus' existence actually predates that of Caesar

@SCOGbook The New Testament attests itself to be as much the Word of God as does the Old Testament. The Apostles considered Paul's writings Scripture from the moment they were penned. The Gospel of John presupposes the truth and wide dispersion of the Synoptic tradition. Prove your arguments or don't speculate.

@oldno74 If you want serious answers to your doubts, send me a message. Your concerns are common. I'd love to take time to answer or refer you to the scholarly literature on whatever topic you have questions about.

No surprise that I am once again going to disagree. Ezekiel here is using not mytho-poetic language, but allegory. Allegory is all over the Old Testament. He is indeed prophesying against the King of Tyre. However he assumes the readers familiarity with the story of Satan, that is right Satan. Satan's fall is the basis of the allegory here used to describe the fall of the King of Tyre whose people had enslaved, and sold the people of Jacob into slavery. See also the prophet Amos.

@oldno74 Actually, we do have contemporary extra-biblical evidence for the existence of Jesus. Refer to Josephus Pliny. Also, the early church is hugely documented in the early writings as well. We have fragments of the gospels that go back to the first century, the century in which they were written. In fact, a fragment of Mark was just discovered that is the oldest fragment extant,

@SCOGbook It's no doubt that Satan didn't exist and is a product of story telling. I think Christianity is just another man made religion to go along with all the other ones. Look at Tim Tebow. Reminds me of an ancient King who thought the gods were helping him win his battles. Like the Creator would be worrying about touchdowns when my brother is in a wheelchair shitting himself every day. Christianity turns people into egotistical nuts sometimes. Don't stop being critical at satan.
Just curious. Do you still believe the bible is the word of god? Because when I first started doubting what I was being taught in church and started to critically study the bible, it all fell apart one by one. Hell, Satan, the Trinity, Jesus as a mythical figure vs historical, to the point now that I don't call myself christian anymore. I actually think the bible is nothing more than a collection of mythical stories of an ancient culture. Almost became atheist but stopped at a deist.

@oldno74 I do believe the Bible is the word of God..however, in my 2nd book, Imagine There's No Satan, I explain what the New Testament is and how doctrine has wrongly been drawn from the NT. The first and earliest believers would have never used the apostolic writings for such puposes. Maybe we should view the NT differently? As for mythical stories, some are and others aren't. Interesting to hear you stopped at being deist. Archeology and Archeoastronomy do show some stories are real.
