http://GardenFork.TV This week we take a few Ikea products and make a BBQ smoker out of them. In this show we build and use the Ikea Hack Food Smoker to show you how to smoke salmon. fun. [ Ikea hacking is taking practical Ikea items, and 're-engineering' them into new practical things. sometimes also called Ikeahacks ] Smoking food is easy, and the smoked salmon tastes great. A big thank you to our friends at Ford for providing the Ford Fiesta and the funds to buy the Ikea parts and for us being part of their Fiestamovement. And big thanks to Alton Brown of Good Eats for the inspiration for this. See our site for the recipe and Ikea hack salmon smoker assembly plans.

The use of galvanized metal in a smoker is questioned by some, use at your own risk.

  • hey boss. where can i get one of those torches? was that hooked up to a standard tank?

  • you can get them at roofing supply places and farm supply catalogs. farmers use them to kill weeds in the field. be careful with it. it hooks up to a regular propane tank.

  • There is always some voice in the background making inane comments....why???

  • very nice idea!!

  • Love how all these "metal experts" say not to use this or that...but then don't give any suggestions, if your gonna comment at least back up what your saying

  • @scalawaggywakyman garbage cans are typically galvanized, the galvanizing process is typically used for any type of metal that'll touch liquid pr water. Your run of the mill sheet metal is NOT galvanized. The best suggestion I have for making a smoker is to find one of those old vertical ice boxes with the latch handle, and put a controllable heating element in the bottom and cut you a hole on top. You can find them on clist on the cheap usually-happy smokin'!

  • @xtxxxnx are garbage cans also galvanized? I'd like to know if I could use it to make a smoker. And what about typical sheet metal..? Are they mostly gavalnized?
