Brazilian street festival in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ. This city hosts one of the largest populations of Brazilian diaspora living in the United States, and the Ironbound community hosts an annual festival the first weekend in September, coinciding with a Brazilian national holiday. It's mostly a drunken funfest where an occasional fight breaks out. And it's hella fun! If you look closely, you'll notice the street where it's held is the site where Steven Spielberg filmed a famous scene in War of the Worlds. As the video begins, notice the church in the distance. It's the one that was supposedly devastated when an alien destroyer surfaced from below the pavement and zapped hundreds of spectators. Same goes for Santos Florist (in the background of the capoeira scenes). But as you can see, it was all Hollywood magic. Ferry Street lives.
