Michael was a winner of the 'Inspirational Leadership in the Field' award at the 2011 Robin Clark Memorial Awards.
Michael is currently the Executive Regional Manager at Wesley Mission Victoria, where he has worked for over 6 years. During that time Michael has managed out of home care services in the Southern and Eastern regions and he has recently taken on responsibility for managing a number of residential services in the North West.
Michael has worked across the two regions which he manages (Southern and Eastern) to develop consistent practises in a range of areas. He has set up youth advisory groups at each of the services so as to really involve young people in planning of services, evaluation and daily feedback.
Previously, Michael managed the establishment of the Burwood House Leaving Care program at Wesley. This program has made a significant difference to the lives of many young people who have participated in the program.
Michael demands very high standards of care - He has established a client advocate position who reports directly to him as a way to ensure high quality services and that the voice of young people is heard.
Michael always works to empower children & young people. Michael is known to regularly drop in at residential homes at all hours of the day and night, and talk with the young people and staff. Even though he is now a senior manager, he can tell you the names and stories of the vast majority of young people in his programs. Michael works to improve the lives and outcomes for the young people in his programs both at a strategic level and at an individual level.
