Iran's changing attitude to HIV/Aids - 07 Aug 08

Participants at a world Aids conference in Mexico are calling on Iran to release from detention two doctors known for their pioneering work on HIV/AIDS.

Human rights groups have claimed the two brothers, Arash and Kamiar Alaei, have been imprisoned.

Aids has long been a taboo topic in Iran, where the stigma of the virus makes it difficult for people to seek treatment.

But as Ali Reza Ronaghi reports things are starting to change.

I'm not claiming to have a scientific answer and i don't want to pull up statistics and sources but i do believe (and i stress believe) that education is the best way of prevention. And yes people will make mistakes or disregard sound advice but it is their choice and they have to live with the consequences. I'm just in favour of open dialogue, debate and examination about subjects rather then an appeal to an Authority or being forced to follow rules that you simply dont or cannot believe in.

@ratonnewmex hey my cousin just had a baby there, she is getting 6 mts off FULL PAY and 6 mts more with LESS PAY, ONE WHOLE YEAR and her job is also safe. I never in my life paid for hospital, Dr or education in Iran, just tiny amounts here and there which were trivial.
