Nick Dawson, Tom Ellis & Leif _ No Social Commentary EP

Nick Dawson is from North Wales, UK. He spent his formative years playing guitars & bass in experimental bands CCO and Sonic Lodge in Liverpool. He bought a Roland 303 and a pair of old decks in '98 and began DJing on the Welsh free party scene in 2000, often playing alongside Joe & Tom Ellis, Leif Knowles and Sam Watson. A resident DJ in techno clubs Submerge (00-01) and Medicine (01-04) with Five-O, Fil Devious and Little Jon, playing a meaty mix of Detroit & Birmingham techno.
Nick has been producing electronic music since 2005, his sound is about clean, syncopated percussive layers and polyrhythms, working against deep melodic phrases. He is a co-founder of paperscissorstonemusic.co.uk with Joe & Tom Ellis, a free netlabel offering techno, house & electronica.
Now a regular at Telephasic Workshop nights in Southend on Sea, England - working with Hybernation, .spec, Leydon Jar, Reason or Romanza and Bunterhund.
No Social Commentary EP using a variety of sound sources including found sounds recorded on a mobile phone, samples from vinyl stereo-test discs from the 1950s and manipulated samples from Archipel.
The three original tracks here are warm, dense and dusty techno, building on the style sketched out on his Incorrected e.p. (Paperscissorstone 2008).
The Trimsound duo of Tom Ellis and Leif have contributed remixes to the release, which are typically up-beat, funky- house takes on the originals.
The photos that were used in designing the cover of this EP, were taken by Irish photographer Ann Marie Fallon, the location was not revealed and the picture has been granted for the exclusive use of this release.
