Interesting to hear this rather "pure" version. Switching from major to straight minor instead of getting the lowered third by adding a seventh to the subdominant seems regressive and I doubt Gershwin would have been pleased. There is no harm in going simple but the tune begs for that subdominant 9th with an added 13th. Such a chord wasn't that rare in 1925.
I took your comment to a musician friend for translation. He looked at it a minute and said, "A ukulele has only four strings."
