I would rename this contribution "Were You There When The Hindenburg Went Down"......Very Powerful! Give credit where it's due! Cheers!

Awesome! This is really funny, but can be serious too.

One man who watched it burn from hundreds of yards away claimed the heat burned his eyebrows off.

Can I get this on itunes??

The hindenburg was built with termite its a very dangerous stuff
-
@wcburns Well think of your small balloon, and scale it up to 804 feet by 135 feet, and you'll get a good idea of what it was like.
-
Unintentional poetry! "It had everybody talking and the loss of life was shocking." That rhymes! I like that.

Fire often goes by the nickname "The Beast". If something as small as a house is only a snack for The Beast, then the Hindenburg was an all-you-can-eat buffet.

I wonder how much heat the ship threw off as it burned?
-
@phill89 I actually saw some interior photos of the ship. Get this! She had a small piano on board. She also had a smoking room--a dangerous thing with 7.000.000 cubic feet of hydrogen holding the ship up!
my friends great grandmothe was a psychic who know that the Hindenburg was going to explode, she told people not to go, but no one listend

@android16B Wow. I believe in things like that. Basically, they were riding under a huge bag of hydrogen, as dangerous as a hangarfull of gasoline fumes! it had a lot of tight bracing wires inside- if one of the steel lines broke, it would whiplash-gash a giant bag of hydrogen and let it all out to where it could be lit. No one really knows the source of the fire. Even our US Airships, filled with helium that couldn;t burn, all crashed or broke up in the high winds of stormy flight.

I read that one of the survivors was trapped in a tangle of hot girders, and he broke 'em with his bare hands to get out! One can only imagine the searing pain he felt.

That's 100% true. Most survivors DID walk out like that- thru a flaming MAZE of white-hot girders. Aluminum burns at 1,500 deg. F! One passenger was a pro stage acrobat- he rode her down to about 40 feet, then jumped from an observation window - did a pro tuck 'n roll away from the impact area, and then got up and ran- without a scratch!
