Actually the Naval Academy Class isn't related to being a Naval aviator. Simply GRADUATING from that school is a bigger accomplishment than most people could ever hope to achieve in their life. And simply becoming a carrier qualified Naval aviator is an even bigger accomplishment. He also put himself on the line to save lives during the USS Forestall fire on July 29, 1967. Also was seen as a 'good pilot' up until he was shot down, and made a POW, which ended his flying days by injures sustained.
