In early 2005, CSN's John Kusumi and Tiananmen Square's Zhou Yongjun co-hosted this news conference at the National Press Club in Washington DC. At the time, the EU was considering the end of its arms embargo for China. That embargo was a santion occasioned by the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989. At the same time, China's legislature was rubber stamping the odious "anti-secession" law aimed at Taiwan. Ultimately, the EU decided to keep its arms embargo. This news conference was pressure exerted by the Chinese democracy movement against those moves by the EU and China.
