I found an old IBM Thinkpad laptop in the trash a couple of months ago, and decided to turn it into an emulated floppy drive for my Commodore 64, using 64HDD. This is a short video of what it does :)

  • Is there a guide that shows how to do this? I have a Commodore 64 and want to get rid of the need of a ton of floppies.

  • @StompySan You can build an X1541 cable from this diagram: sta . c64 . org / x1541c . html. It's pretty easy :)

  • you dont have to type .bat ...

  • @thecooldude9999 I know, but I renamed go64hdd.bat to 64hdd.bat (same name as the executable), so I did it to make sure it was the batch file, and not the program itself I was executing.

  • @Psylicium OK, I have the cable ready, but I am not too sure on how to use the software. I couldn't find any real guides on the official site.

  • I think I have the same model of Stinkpad... lol... the NiMH battery went sour, but I ripped it out and it works fine. Except the screen got smashed at some point. Using it for a C64 external HDD sounds like an excellent idea... if only I had a C64, lol. Time to hit ebay.

  • Looks like alot of work, but so worth it.

  • @Psylicium ah ok thats what i thought... nice job i will be makeing myself a cable soon and trying it with my 128

  • @bbankrablo You should be able to get it working with SPP according to sta.c64.org :)

"The X1541 cable is the original cable. It requires an SPP or PS/2 parallel port and it's compatible with all Commodore machines and drives that have the usual serial bus port."

  • @Psylicium

    Thanks a lot! :D

    I can choose from:

    - SPP

    - EPP

    - ECP

    - ECP + EPP

    No BPP :(
