You can be a student at School of Foreign Languages and not known a single word in
English, French, or German. This unusual phenomena happens only at Tirana's University. Freshmen's admit to not have a clue regarding the language they have chosen to study, but for them it was either this or not going to college at all. Sophomores, many of which have failed in many of their courses, are feeling the
consequences of choosing the wrong major. More than half of freshmen's can't even
speak, leave alone write, a foreign language. Department of German conducted a test, to see the level of its new students. Out of 89 students, 30 of them didn't know a single
word, 4 of them were able to get 1 point on their own, and the rest had minimal
knowledge of this language. Ministry of Education won't allow to make the freshman
year into an introductory course. According to deputy minister of education says that
School of Foreign Languages is to blame for admitting students without any standards.
Meanwhile those that decided to enroll in this schools will have to face their teachers.
Last year 300 students of Italian failed their courses because didn't have the adequate knowledge of the language.

It is Romanian. It will sound a lot like Italian mixed with a bit of German and other influences. If you listen to the accent, you pick up on the "Italian" cadence and rhythm. I speak Italian, French, German and Spanish and I recognized quickly that it was a romance language. Very beautiful!
