Did you know that the pearl, this natural wonder, is actually the result of a mistake? Natural pearls only grow if a grain of sand is mistakenly introduced into an oyster and this happens rarely in nature.
So the pearl is either a wonderful creation or a mistake depending on how you look at it.
In my life I believe that some of the best things have come out of my mistakes. This is especially true when it comes to my music. It is usually when I make a mistake that I suddenly find new and interesting chord progressions.
Maybe we should not be so afraid of making mistakes and judge less harshly, what we believe are, the mistakes of others.

This tune is inspired by Jackson Browne, one of my all-time favorite artists. I feel that he has an unsurpassed magical mastery of words and music. I have been spellbound by his music ever since I heard "Running on Empty" for the first time one summer evening, more summers ago then I care to remember.
I think you can hear some chords from his song "The Road" in this tune. I hope you enjoy it.

CGCGCD with partial capo on 3rd fret blocking 3rd, 4th and 5th string

This tune is included in the compilation Something from Nowhere that you can buy and download from my website http://www.staffansvahn.com/1/Something_from_Nowhere.html

  • Simply beautiful!!!

  • A very nice song Staffan, and very philosophically illustrated in your sidebar, too. You are so right about that some of those "mistakes" are "the missing jewels". I've discovered them myself, and it is quite an eye opener.

  • This is beatiful music, makes me feel good inside that people still have this in them in a world that seems so consumed with the wrong things.

  • Wow, this almost made me cry, so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your amazing work!

  • Beautiful song! Your comments about the song's origin are inspiring . . .

  • Wonderful stuff . I know what you mean when you are talking about a pearl. I tried learning some Andy Mckee songs (different tunings etc ) and after trying for ages getting nowhere started to come up with my own compositions and that is when the magic starts. Keep on playing . Great stuff
