Hey. Im turning 13 and i wanna to buy an air rifle. after looking at hundreds of rifles, the crosman NPSS was perfect, except for two things:
1- The length: i'm 55 inches and the rifle is 43 inches. do you think it is too big?
2-I watched a paul acapello review on this crosman rifle, and he measured about 26 pound of effort to cock the rifle, is it really hard to cock? because i dnt wanna buy something i won't be able to work. PLEASE ANSWER ME AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE THANK U!

@AirgunAddict256 yeah man, i used to do long range copatition shooting at 800 yard with a 308 and i handload my rounds at a buddys house. my little bro was playing with the bullets (soft lead poing btw) and droped 5 of them and didn't tell me. i was shooting good until one of the bad ones was in my mag and the shot was 8 inches from the group lol when i got home he told me. that little bastard lol

@lilham10809 yeah i know what you're saying. i hope to get more into firearms this year... it's gonna be my first deer season, so i hope to learn more about firearms.
but yeah with firearms, there's so many variables, and the rates of things are so high, the tiniest thing makes a huge difference.
the range is increased about 5-fold, the loads are about 10 times heavier. the energy is out of this world compared to firearms.
so yeah i see where you're coming from. i thought similarly at first.

@AirgunAddict256 see i have more experience with reel fireamrs where 10 grains means a shitload of diffrience lol

@lilham10809 continued from my last comment...
it's really a balance of these things that matters. what one size doesn't have, it makes up from the other thing. like .177 cuts through air, but has less inertia to keep it up, therefore more deceleration , but plenty of velocity to keep it going fine.
but a .22 lacks the velocity of .177. however it has the inertia that keeps it going in spite of lower velocity.
you see it is a balance, and .22 and .177 pretty much match.

@lilham10809 well you see, here's where the big difference between pellet guns and firearms comes in.
the difference between a .177 and .22 powerplant when it comes to power is minute. 3 foot-pounds at the most. same with velocity... 200 feet per second at the most. you can argue both ways, kinda. you can say that .177 cuts through the air faster, which it does do that. you can also say that .22 has more mass and therefore has more inertia to keep it up.
-
@lilham10809 yeah sorry about the "medium" part... i kinda added that in for the kid just to emphasize that the gun wasn't a toy. i did exaggerate a bit too much i guess. but yeah, you're right. rabbits and jack rabbits are about as far as this gun will go.
-
@AirgunAddict256 small game. NOT medium game. this is powerful airgun by all means but a .22lr has more power and with a good shot can take down medium game. but doesn't have the power to take it down in its tracks. this gun going 1200 fps with a .177 cal pellet doesn't have enough foot pounds to take down 30-40 pound animals. for medium game such as coyotes? .17hmr going 2000 ps or .22 wmr going 1700 or so fps would be the lowest you should go. if you hunt with this airgun, stick to bunnys
-
@AirgunAddict256 actually you are right and wrong, the .177 is faster then the .22 BUT the .177 is smaller letting it cut through the wind better. my 17 hmr and my .22 wmr have the same barrel leanths and i was using cci tnt hollow points to sight them in. the .17 was more accurate at 100 yard then my .22 wmr. now lets get back to pellet guns. now the .22 being heavier will travel farther then the .177.
@king123123100
absolutely not true. this gun is made for hunting small to medium size game. this is absolutely NOT for a 10 year old. it fires lead pellets that are made to kill animals up to 30-40 pounds. if you think this is an airsoft gun, you are grossly mistaken.
