One of the greatest political speeches ever, delivered April 4th 1968. This speech was given by Senator Robert Kennedy who was running for Democratic president at the time. Moments before a speech at a campaign rally in Indianapolis' inner-city, Kennedy was informed that Martin Luther King Jr, the leader of the African-American civil rights movement, had been assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. Standing in front of a mostly-black crowd, Robert Kennedy delivered this speech completely extemporaneously, with no time to prepare, as he informed the crowd of the tragedy. This took place at the height of the civil rights movement. More than 100 US cities erupted in riots across the nation after MLK's death, Indianapolis remained silent after hearing these unforgettable words. Robert Kennedy was assassinated two months after giving this speech, and his brother John F. Kennedy had been assassinated five years prior in November 1963. All of these men fought for what they believed in and in civil rights, and they paid the ultimate price. May they rest in peace. Hope you enjoy. - danglensnipe
I am really sorry about Martin Luther King Jr.... Well, I wish I could do anything that could have saved him. But I really wouldn't, because I might have to... well, risk my life, so I really wouldn't do it.
